Natia Gogaladze was brutally killed on October 11 by her ex-husband, Irakli Dekanoidze. Gogaladze owned a second-hand clothing store in Khashuri, on King Tamar Street and was working there when his husband attacked. According to witnesses, the man threw a grenade at the store that did not explode, after which he fired a shotgun.

Natia managed to run to the grocery store, which is located a few meters from her clothing store. The abuser grabbed Natia near the grocery store and brutally killed her by hitting the gun into her head.

Gogaladze has a fourth-grade son and a sixth-grade daughter. The children were in school at the time of the accident. According to the locals, the couple did not live together, though they were not officially divorced yet. The last court hearing on Gogaladze and Dekanoidze's divorce was scheduled for October 11 at 4 pm. Divorce proceedings began after Natia Gogaladze returned from Italy.

Larisa Chaduneli, Dekanoidze’s lawyer said that her client had no intention of killing his ex-wife and the incident took place after an argument between the two.

Answering whether or not Dekanoidze confesses to the crime, the lawyer said that “the fact is that very serious crime took place. He did not want to kill her, only went there to talk about kids… after this, they had an argument and it led to a grave result.”

Reporters also asked the lawyer why Dekanoidze went to his wife with a grenade if he wanted to only talk to her, according to the defender, she “can’t talk about it.”

“I can't talk about such details. I cannot say with certainty that he was armed and intended to kill his life. For some time, about 10 minutes, they were talking,” said the lawyer.

One neighbor says that the conflict between the couple began years ago. When Natia left for Italy, her children were raised by their grandparents. When Natia came back to Georgia, she took her children with her and the conflict escalated.

“I was at home when I heard the woman screaming. I ran outside and found out that the ex-husband of this girl came, bit and killed her. I did not know the husband well. He was not from here. Natia was in Italy and worked there for a few years. She came back a recently and was trying to divorce her husband,” said one of the witnesses.

According to the Interior Ministry, the crime envisages imprisonment from 13 to 17 years. The investigation is ongoing under article 11’, crime committed by one family member against another family member under Article 109.
